OPP confirms situation in video circulating online “did not take place”

A video circulating on social media showing two Ontario Provincial Police officers confronting an individual while doing lawn care is “untrue” and depicts a situation that “did not happen”, OPP said.

In a post on X, the force said the video manipulates unrelated clips, providing false context. It said OPP can confirm that the officers shown in the video did not speak to any individual doing any lawn care.

“This did not happen,” Sergeant Ed Sanchuk of the West Region OPP Headquarters said in a video statement attached to the post.

The OPP is reminding residents to remain vigilant and critical of what they see online.

“Disinformation such as this can fuel public hostility, heighten risk to officer safety and undermine community trust,” Sanchuk said.

OPP said no charges will be laid in relation to the post.
