The weather is “favourable” to develop dangerous thunderstorms, possibly capable of producing damaging winds and large hail on Tuesday.
Environment Canada said that a cold front moving into the National Capital Region is expected this afternoon and is likely to “trigger” severe thunderstorms. Temperatures soared in the city this morning, with humidex values pushing 27 C.
Due to the complete turn of temperatures, Environment Canada says people should take caution on Tuesday evening. The weather agency believes the storm could create large hail of up to 4 centimetres, that could cause property damage. Along with the possible ice, the wind is expected to pick up, gusting to 110 km/h at the height of the storm.
“Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road,” the agency said.
Due to this, it is warning people to take cover immediately if the threatening weather approaches.
“Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!”
