A young goat, although small, caused quite the chaos for drivers and police in Grenville.
According to Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) the kid, named Vincent Van Goat by officers, was roaming around Highway 416 and 401 early Wednesday morning. OPP Constable Dave Holmes told CityNews that the first report of the goat came around 5:37 a.m. yesterday.
Police said they responded to “multiple” traffic hazard complaints between last night and this morning about this “baaaad boy.”
“There could be a major public safety risk when vehicles are travelling that fast and suddenly put the brakes on,” he said. “Then a collision with a goat could certainly cause some damage to a vehicle. So, we patrolled the area, but were unable to locate it.”
It wasn’t until Thursday morning that animal-loving officers attempted again to find the goat.
Luckily, officials said that nearby Canadian Border officers saw police chasing after the goat and came out to help. The multiple agencies also had help from a member of the public who had another goat with them and food, which allowed police to gain Vinny’s trust.
“Eventually, they were able to have an eye on it and get it under a bridge to stop it from running onto the road, at which time other officers were called to help contain it,” Holmes said.
It took about an hour of running around for officers to contain Vinny, who was completely unharmed from the adventures.
“While it isn’t a common call for service for police, it was definitely a good example of why remaining fit for duty is important,” Holmes said.
“Never a ‘baaahring’ day in Grenville County.”
