Campfires, brush piles and burning outdoor fireplaces are not allowed on Monday in Ottawa.
The nation’s capital, like most of the province, is under a dome of high heat and humidity that is expected to reach past 40 C on June 23. This has prompted Ottawa’s fire chief to set a ban on any flames.
This is largely based on the environmental conditions, making fires that spark out of control extremely difficult to douse.
Outdoor cooking appliances like gas, charcoal or propane barbeques or fireplaces are allowed during a ban. These devices must not use wood, trees or compostable material to burn.
However, campers in Fitzroy Provincial Park are not under a fire ban as of Monday.
