Crews responded Monday morning to a rural part of dense bush outside of the Town of Arnprior for a skydiving accident.
Ottawa firefighters were called for a report that a skydiver had crash-landed into a heavily wooded area near Upper Dwyer Hill Road and Ottawa Road 29. The team from the nation’s capital was dispatched to the scene with one of its brush trucks.
When they got there, firefighters needed to use chainsaws to cut through the branches to get to the patient. Paramedics from Renfrew County also responded. The injured skydiver was conscious and alert, Ottawa firefighters noted, but they had sustained multiple fractures.
Emergency responders loaded the patient onto a stokes basket before bringing them out to the road, where they were transported to hospital by 11:53 a.m.
A firefighter was assessed by paramedics at the scene for heat exhaustion, since it felt like 46 C in the area yesterday.
