Another day of high heat and humidity is expected for the nation’s capital as the city broke some records on Monday.
By 4:00 p.m. on June 23, temperatures hit a high of 35 C, breaking a record of 34.4 C first set in 1921, according to Environment Canada’s almanac. A record first set at the Ottawa International Airport in 1983 was also broken by 1.7 C.
With the humidity, it felt closer to 46 C in Ottawa yesterday.
June 24 will be more of the same, as the heat dome continues to hover over Ontario and Quebec. A heat warning remains in effect for Ottawa and the Valley, but the weather agency believes that it’ll end tonight.
“Take action to protect yourself and others – extreme heat can affect everyone’s health. Determine if you or others around you are at greater risk of heat illness,” the warning reads. “Check on older adults, those living alone and other at-risk people in-person or on the phone multiple times a day.”
A bit of relief is on the way, but it could also cause a risk of a thunderstorm, the forecast shows.
Tuesday is set to be 34 C, feeling like 43 C with the humidex. There is a risk of a thunderstorm and showers in the afternoon, before clouds could clear out overnight. Temperatures will drop overnight to a low of 20 C, the first time it could in several days.
Wednesday will be hotter than normal, around 28 C, but the humidity will make it feel closer to 30 C. It will be another sunny bright day in Ottawa.
Rain is expected to move into the region by Thursday, with a high of 23 C expected. Temperatures are set to return closer to seasonal heading into the weekend.
