A gun taken and numerous charges laid by OPP

A Smiths Falls resident is facing multiple charges after an investigation by Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

Officers from the Lanark detachment reported to a break-in at a home in Mississippi Mills Township. Police found and stopped a vehicle in Carleton Place and searched it. They found inside stolen property and a prohibited weapon with an over-capacity magazine, the press release reads.

The two men in the vehicle were arrested by officers and brought to the detachment.

One of the males arrested was charged, the other was released.

A 24-year-old man is facing offences of:

  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
  • Transporting a firearm in a careless manner
  • Dangerous operation of a vehicle
  • Unlawfully in a dwelling
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
