Several people from multiple families and two cats are displaced after firefighters tackled a multi-unit home blaze on Tuesday.
The call first came in at 6:37 p.m. for a semi-detected home in the 100 block of Guigues Avenue in the ByWard Market. Three minutes later, crews arrived and could see smoke coming from all sides of the roof.
Quickly launching into an attack, officials found the blaze on the second floor near the back of the home in the hallway. Another crew searched the floors and units for people.
Firefighters pulled down parts of the ceiling to extinguish the flames while the searching team completed their second round.
One of the owners outside said that two cats were still missing. Officials said they were able to find the felines and return them to their owner.
Multiple families were displaced from the incident, including eight adults and three children. Victim Services was dispatched to help them.

Hours later, a second call came in to crews.
Again, firefighters arrived within three minutes to find heavy black smoke coming from the front door of a two-storey townhome in the 100 block of Fairweather Street in the Leitrim community.
The only person inside the home at the time met crews outside.
Bringing a hose line into the house, officials said they were met with zero-visibility conditions, from the thick black smoke covering from floor to the ceiling.
Making their way through the house, crews found the flames in the basement and were able to douse them before they spread.
Two searches were done to make sure no one else was inside.
Due to this incident, two adults and a child are displaced.
