Police bust Centretown drug trafficking operation, seizing over 1,000 pills

Two people were arrested after Ottawa police searched a property in Centretown in connection with a drug trafficking investigation.

In March, members of the Central Neighbourhood Resource Team, with the street crime unit, launched a case in response to ongoing community concerns of drug activity in the neighbourhood. As a result of a search police arrested two men without incident. One of them is facing several offences under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, the other was released without charges.

“This enforcement action is part of ongoing efforts to address community concerns, reduce the availability of harmful substances, and improve safety for residents, businesses, and visitors in the Centretown area,” officials said in a press release.

In the search police seized:

  • Approximately 38 grams of fentanyl
  • 154 hydromorphone pills
  • 849 methylphenidate pills
  • 229 biphentin pills
  • 26 nabilone pills
  • 31 morphine pills
  • Approximately $7,300 in Canadian currency

The investigation is ongoing. It comes after police recently laid over a dozen charges after they partnered with the community for proactive enforcement along Bank Street.

Officers were in Centretown between Gladstone Avenue and Catherine Street in response to ongoing concerns from the public about safety, “disorder” and criminal activity.

The outreach saw police partner with multiple units within the agency and the community. Its goal was to focus on the disruptions involving a group of people, helping vulnerable people who live in the area and safety for residents and businesses.

As a result, 10 people are facing 14 criminal and two provincial charges.
