Ottawa firefighters were called to a serious two-vehicle collision in Osgoode on Tuesday morning.
Crews responded around 10:53 a.m. after Ottawa police requested they come to the intersection of First Line Road and Phelan Road East. A man was trapped in his vehicle after striking a tree.
Ottawa paramedics said that the adult male might have suffered a medical incident and collided with the second vehicle.
When they got there, fire crews saw two vehicles, each with a single driver. The driver of the pickup truck was stuck inside after leaving the roadway. Teams stabilized the vehicle and brought in a hose line before beginning the extrication process.
They used specialized hydraulic tools and were able to remove the driver by 11:15 a.m. The driver in the second vehicle was not trapped.
Firefighters gave medical care until Ottawa paramedics and Ornge Air Ambulance arrived. The man was airlifted to the hospital in serious but stable condition, paramedics said.
The second driver, an adult female, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital in stable condition.
