A 71-year-old man was in court on Thursday morning to face two charges after he was arrested in connection with a daytime stabbing at a grocery store in Nepean.
The incident happened around 1:35 p.m. in a Loblaws at the 1900 block of Baseline Road. Officials said that an elderly woman in her 70s went into the store with a friend.

Police said that a man was arrested at the scene.
Officers confirmed on Thursday that the victim and suspect were not known to each other. Ottawa police’s west criminal investigations and hate and bias crime unit are looking into the case.
Store staff treated the woman before paramedics stabilized her and took her to the hospital in critical condition. She was released later that day.
The 71-year-old accused is charged with aggravated assault and possession of a dangerous weapon.
“The Ottawa Police Service is looking at all potential motives behind this unprovoked assault,” the press release reads. “We understand and appreciate the community concern related to this investigation and will continue to provide updates as they are available.”
