Wildfire, about 150 acres in size, forced evacuations north of Kingston

Emergency responders are still monitoring a wildfire that quickly popped up and spread out of control on Sunday north of Kingston.

The blaze is along Road 509 near Ompah, Ont., in Frontenac County. Crews from the surrounding fire departments attended at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. A drone flew over the scene late into the night, Corey Klatt, Chief Administrative Officer, with the Township of North Frontenac told CityNews in an email.

On Monday morning the blaze is estimated to be about 150 acres in size but it is not considered held as of 1:45 p.m.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) from the Frontenac detachment assisted with evacuations of several homes, however it is an unknown number impacted. Those needing to leave are being sent to the Snow Road Community Hallo and Ompah Community Halls.

“We appreciate the offers of assistance from surrounding businesses and residents, Fire Departments, OPP and MNR (Ministry of Natural Recourses),” Klatt said.

Officials said there are no reports of injuries or serious damage from the fire.

Dog reunited

More officers from Lennox and Addington County detachment of the OPP were able to save a dog from a home after their owner was evacuated.

According to a post by the force, one of its constables found the dog and was able to reunite it with the owner at the Ompah Community Hall.
