Air Canada announces more flights between Ottawa, Toronto

Air Canada is making a significant move at a Toronto airport, unveiling plans for more daily flights to the nation’s capital.

As part of Thursday’s announcement, the air carrier said it is also strengthening its presence in the heavily travelled Eastern Triangle from Billy Bishop City Airport. Beginning January 2026, the airline will increase service between Toronto Island and Montreal to nine return flights daily (up from eight) and expand service to Ottawa to six return flights daily (up from four).

The new routes position Air Canada to compete more directly with Porter Airlines, which has long dominated Billy Bishop’s transborder and domestic network.

Porter Airlines is serving more warmer destinations from Ottawa, according to a recent announcement by the carrier. It is increasing flights to southern destinations by up to 25 per cent in peak travel periods and has unveiled two new routes.

Planes are set to travel three times weekly from Ottawa’s International Airport to Miami (starting January) and to Phoenix (starting February).

More capacity will be added from the nation’s capital to Grand Cayman, Liberia, Costa Rica and Puerto Vallarta.

Air Canada recently said that, at the end of September that customers can be served year-round to England’s capital city.

Flights are continuing in the winter from Ottawa to London, the only Canadian carrier linking the capital to non-stop Europe, according to the press release.
