Ottawa police called firefighters to a rural west-end intersection after a two-vehicle crash that left one female with serious injuries.
According to officials, a female in her late teens was trapped in her vehicle at the intersection of Eagleson and Fallowfield roads on Tuesday evening. The incident happened around 7:50 p.m. and prompted police to call fire crews to help extricate the driver.
Firefighters said in a press release that the crash was a head-on collision where one vehicle ended up in the ditch. The teen was the lone occupant and had her legs pinned in the wheel well.
Crews stabilized the vehicle, including using rescue jacks to support the driver’s side and prevent the car from sliding further into the ditch. While a team was extricating, another member was treating the female’s injuries and gave heat packs and a warming blanket.
Teams removed the door, the hood and the structural post on the passenger side door. Firefighters said they lifted the dash of the vehicle allowing the teen to be removed.

When she was freed, she was put on a backboard by 8:26 p.m. Paramedics brought her to hospital in serious but stable condition, they told CityNEws.
Paramedics also treated one man on scene, who was assessed but not taken to hospital.
This intersection is no stranger to crashes.
In September, a woman in her 80s was killed in a collision with a dump truck, leaving a man in his 80s to recover in hospital. Fire crews were also called, where they extricated two people from the same vehicle.
This portion of the city connects Barrhaven to Stittsville and the growing Richmond community.
