Dump truck rolls down 12-metre hill, injuring driver

Ottawa fire’s ropes team was called to the west end after a dump truck moving earth rolled down an embankment.

Crews were called around 8:34 a.m. on Tuesday to the 4000 block of March Road in Carp by Ottawa paramedics. Officials said that the driver was injured after the truck rolled down a 12-metre hill.

The male driver was not able to climb back up the hill. Fire crews made their way down the steep embankment, and when they reached him, they started assessments.

The rope team constructed a twin-tension, steep-angle system allowing three rescuers to descend the muddy hill.

A basket was used to secure the patient before safely bringing him to ground level.

Ottawa paramedics assessed the driver for serious but non-life-threatening injuries by 9:48 a.m.

He was taken to hospital in stable condition by Lanark County paramedics.
