Buses in the City of Ottawa, and across the region, were cancelled on Tuesday morning in anticipation of a brief but powerful winter storm.
According to Environment Canada, between 7 and 12 centimetres of accumulation is expected on Feb. 10. It started late Tuesday morning and continues through the evening. The weather agency expects the heaviest portion of the storm to impact the afternoon commute, which is why school buses were cancelled for students.
“Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions,” the agency’s warning reads.
After several days of extreme cold, the nation’s capital is warming up to around seasonal this week. The forecast shows temperatures should hover around -8 C, with a wind chill of -15. As Tuesday progresses, it’s expected to get slightly warmer.
Overnight temperatures will stay around -12, and increase over Wednesday.
