Heavy rain expected for Easter weekend

It may be Good Friday, but the weather is anything but.

Environment Canada says a Colorado low is bringing rain to the Ottawa area.

According to a special weather statement posted Friday morning, 25 to 50 mm can be expected throughout Saturday and Sunday.

“There remains some uncertainty as to where the highest rainfall amounts will occur,” the weather agency says. “Rainfall warnings may follow as the event nears.”

Thunderstorms may also occur.

The flood outlook that was issued for the upper watershed last week remains in place, according to the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority.

Flood outlook statements also remain in place for the Carp River and Mississippi River, under the jurisdiction of the Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority.

As of Friday afternoon, water levels remain normal.
