Lalande Conservation Park closes as City doubles down on coyote problem

The city closed Lalande Conservation Park in Ottawa’s east end after an incident involving coyotes in the area.

Officials said they are working to ensure safety for wildlife, residents and pets in the area and are working closely with provincial authorities, wildlife experts and partner agencies for the best approach. The closure went into effect on June 9 and remains closed until further notice.

The city prioritized relocation efforts, but due to greater safety concerns, they are reassessing how to deal with the issue.

As part of the interim response:

  • Lalande Conservation Park will remain closed until operations are complete.
  • Trail cameras will be installed to support operations and provide situational awareness in the area.
  • Bylaw and Regulatory Services staff are on site advising residents to avoid the park and surrounding greenspace while the closure is in effect.
  • City staff will continue coordinating directly with provincial authorities and wildlife experts.

The public is reminded not to not shoot, trap or approach coyotes.
