Two minutes after getting the call, firefighters were at a bank for possible structural damage.
Around 6:07 p.m. on Thursday, crews were called by Ottawa police to the 600 block of Earl Armstrong Road in Riverside South for a vehicle that had crashed into a building.
When they arrived, they saw an SUV had landed through the front window of the Scotiabank and was a few feet inside.
Woman inside was out of the vehicle before emergency responders came. Fire crews took care of them before paramedics arrived.
The woman in her 40s was taken to hospital in stable condition with minor injuries. Paramedics confirmed to CityNews in an interview that it appeared she suffered a medical episode.
Officials searched the building to make sure no one else was injured before another team assessed the damage.
“Due to the collision and the proximity of the gas meter, firefighters shut off the gas supply as a precaution and advised the bank manager,” the press release reads.
No load-bearing walls or main supports were damaged by the crash, and the brick was intact, firefighters said.
After moving the vehicle from the window, the bank manager was told by expert to get the window and wall patched up before further repairs could be finished.
Fire crews left the scene at 7:23 p.m. and Ottawa police are investigating.
