Light ballast fire causes evacuation of sports complex

OTTAWA — No one was injured after a light ballast caught fire at a sports complex in Orleans.

Firefighters were called to the Bob Macquarrie complex around 7:20p.m. Friday after heavy smoke was seen in the building.

Ottawa Fire said heavy smoke poured from the light ballast and travelled into the walls by the rink.

Everyone was evacuated from the building.

Ottawa Hydro and Enbridge were called in, as well.

There’s no estimate on the cost of damages to the building.
