Students to pack Canadian Tire Centre for ‘We Day’

OTTAWA – Roughly 16,000 students are expected to fill the seats inside Canadian Tire Centre Wednesday for ‘We Day’.
The organization aims to inspire and motivate youth to create change with an annual tour with musicians and speakers joining them along the way.
The unique event doesn’t have tickets available for purchase – what makes it special is that each student that attends ‘earns’ their spot by pledging to take action in at least one local and one global social initiative.
Those attending will see the likes of Shawn Hook, Brett Kissel, and Olivia Holt.
Speakers include four time Olympian Silkan Laumann, Rick Hansen, a 13-year-old aspiring Broadway actor, Tai Young, and of course, founders of ‘We’, Marc and Craig Kielburger.
This year, the event will also include in a special tribute to the late Gord Downie.
Downie’s siblings and mother will reunite with the sister of Chanie Wenjack and her granddaughter to carry on Downie’s legacy of advocating for indigenous rights and reconciliation.
There will also be a performance of Downie’s ‘The Stranger’ by a local school choirs.
