City issues order to restore Somerset House

By Alex Black

A building that's been sitting in disrepair for years is finally set to get much needed repairs.

Mayor Jim Watson says an order for the repair and restoration of Somerset House has been issued.

The building, at 352 Somerset Street, at Bank Street, has been an eyesore in the downtown for more than a decade.

The work will be paid for by the City of Ottawa, then billed back to the building owner through property taxes.

The Built Heritage Committee is set to receive an update on the order for repair on Thursday.
