Thunderstorm watch issued for Ottawa on Sunday

The last week Ottawa may have been a treated with summer-like temperatures, but now it’s time to return to spring-type weather.
Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the city on Sunday, May 15, adding that conditions are favourable for producing strong wind gusts of up to 90 km/h and nickel-sized hail.
Heavy downpours with rainfall amounts of up to 50 mm are also forecasted.
The weather agency says the storm will roll around in the afternoon and continue into the early evening.
“Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles,” Environment Canada said in its statement. “Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors.”
Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: liege hail, damaging winds or torrential rainfall, it adds.
Temperatures are forecasted to reach a high of 26 C but with the Humidex could feel more like 31.
