Targeted enforcement leads to 62 charges in ByWard Market and Lowertown

A targeted enforcement blitz in the ByWard Market and Lowertown has led to 62 charges against 21 people.

The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) Market, Centretown and Carlington Neighbourhood Resource Teams (NRTs) targeted ‘social disorder related issues as well as drug related activity’ from Monday, Oct. 16 to Friday, Oct 27.

In total, 21 individuals, ranging from 17- 50-years-old, all from Ottawa, were arrested and a total of 62 criminal charges were laid.

Those charges include:

  • Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of controlled substances
  • Obstructing Police
  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Breaches of release orders
  • Possession of Property obtained by Crime

Officers also seized a considerable quantity of controlled substances, including fentanyl and cocaine.

Additionally, 53 fines were issued for various infractions.

“NRT enforcement projects will continue to occur across the city, with our city partners, as police identify emerging problem areas,” said Staff Sergeant Cory Robertson.
