O-Train Line 1 will have less frequent service starting at the end of August to reflect the demand on the line, OC Transpo said on its website.
According to the transit agency, on Aug. 26 Line 1 trains will run every 10 minutes between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. during the week. Peak-period service will continue to be every five minutes.
“This change adjusts Line 1 service during weekday off-peak periods to better reflect current demand and travel patterns,” the website reads.
When asked about the change at a press conference, Ottawa’s Mayor Mark Sutcliffe said the change was needed to address the public transportation’s “historic shortfalls.”
“Service will always be calibrated to demand,” he said.
OC Transpo said it will monitor the change to meet off-peak rider volumes.
“Should ridership increase, adjustments can be made.”
Details of the change will come by the fall.
