One dead after pedestrian struck on Hwy. 15

One person is dead after being struck by a vehicle on Highway 15 in Rideau Lakes Saturday night.

Shortly after 9 p.m., Leeds OPP received reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a moving vehicle travelling southbound.

The pedestrian, a 43-year-old man from Kingston, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity will not be released to safeguard the privacy of the family. A postmortem examination will be conducted.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured.

The OPP East Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement team, including the Technical Traffic Collision Investigation Unit and a Collision Reconstructionist, are assisting with the investigation.

The highway remained closed for several hours but has since reopened.

OPP say no charges have been laid at this time.
