Road rage incident leads to charges

Police laid charges against a 46-year-old man in connection with a serious road rage incident that was posted to social media.

On Feb. 7, Hate and Bias Crime investigators were told of an interaction at an Ottawa intersection where a suspect engaged in “aggressive behaviour” with another driver. Officials learned the suspect uttered “hate-motivated comments.”

The interaction was captured on video by the victim and shared on social media, the press release reads.

As a result, the Ottawa man was arrested and charged with assault, criminal harassment and mischief to property.

“The OPS reminds the public that hate motivated incidents are taken seriously, and investigators will continue to pursue charges where evidence supports that an offence was motivated by bias, prejudice, or hate,” police said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Pelletier with the Hate and Bias Crime Unit at 6132361222, ext. 2653.
