Two people have charges pending against them from Ottawa police, after officers arrested the pair in connection with a string of “violent” thefts that involved three stolen vehicles and two break-ins.
Officials said in a press release they have been investigating multiple incidents of robbery, vehicle thefts and break-and-enters across the nation’s capital that happened in a few-hour span.
On the morning of March 14, police were called to a robbery involving a vehicle in the 200 block of West Hunt Club Road.
The victim told police that two people confronted them with a knife, stole the vehicle and sped away from the area. Shortly after, police believe, the pair went to a house in the west end where they broke in and confronted the homeowner.
The homeowner said the suspects took their keys before speeding off in the second vehicle.
Police say the two then travelled to Ottawa’s east end, where a collision happened with another vehicle.
“A passing motorist stopped to assist. When the motorist exited their vehicle, the suspects entered the vehicle and stole it, fleeing in what became the third stolen vehicle connected to the incident,” police said.
Officials said they later determined the suspects had returned to the west end, where police believe they broke into another home. In the incident, there was a physical altercation with the homeowner, who sustained minor injuries.
The male suspect ran away from the area on foot, while the woman stayed in the house, where she was arrested by officers.
Police later found the male suspect in the area, and he was also arrested.
The investigation continues but police say they will be laying charges.
