Teen driver rescued from SUV tangled in fence after early morning crash

A teen driver was trapped inside their vehicle after it landed upside down from crashing into a wired fence near Barrhaven.
Firefighters were called by Ottawa police, for the second day in a row, for an early morning crash where the driver in his late teens became trapped in the wreck. It happened Wednesday around 3:47 a.m. near Cedarview Road and Lytle Avenue.
Police said that a vehicle was on its roof in a ditch about nine metres from the road. When fire crews arrived they saw the SUV was tangled in a livestock fence. One team started to cut away sections of the fence and nearby trees to access the vehicle.
The teen was inside with one arm pinned beneath the roof of the SUV, the fire release notes.
Using cribbing to stabilize the SUV, another team brought a hose line and chemical extinguisher as a precaution. Jacks were added to secure the SUV before the team started extrication of the driver.
While this was happening, another crew searched the area using a thermal camera to make sure no one else was ejected from the vehicle.
Hydraulic tools were needed to remove parts of the SUV before he was removed at 4:18 a.m.
Paramedics took him with serious but non-life-threatening injuries to hospital.
This comes after multiple days of extrications needed across the nation’s capital.
On Tuesday, a pair of 22 year olds were seriously injured after the vehicle they were in slammed into a hydro pole on Fallowfield Road.
Just a day before that, a serious two-vehicle crash happened on Woodroffe Avenue needed fire crews to douse flames before rescuing trapped people from the vehicles.
