OTTAWA (NEWS1130) – Canada’s RCMP watchdog says it’s concerned an 11-year-old boy was Tasered by police in Prince George last week. The Commission for Public Complaints Against the RCMP will launch its own investigation after West Vancouver police finish looking into the case.
The commission has done Taser investigations before, including the Robert Dziekanski case. When the investigations wrap up, the group issues recommendations.
Jamie Robertson with the commission says they’ve issued warnings about what they call “at-risk” groups. “We have expressed concern about the groups we would regard as vulnerable and that includes children. In this case, the individual’s age is of concern,” he explains.
The boy was Tasered on Thursday after a 37-year-old man was stabbed. BC’s Representative for Children and Youth is considering an investigation into the case as well.
