Notorious serial killer Clifford Olson dies

MONTREAL – The “Beast of B.C.”, child-killer Clifford Olson has died.
A family member of one of Olson’s victims, who was contacted by Corrections Canada, has confirmed the death to 1310News Halifax affiliate, News95.7.
The Correctional Service of Canada also confirmed his death, saying in a press release Olson died of apparent natural causes.
“At the time of his death, M. Olson was at the institutional Health Care Centre of the Archambault Institution in Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines,” the release said.
Olson, 71, was serving a life sentence for 11 counts of first degree murder. Next of kin have been notified.
The Correctional Service of Canada said the police and coroner have been notified, as they are in all cases where an inmate dies in custody. It will also review the circumstances surrounding Olson’s.
Brigitte Kozma, the elder sister of murder victim Judy Kozma, called News95.7 to tell them Corrections Canada contacted her today to inform her that Olson had died. Kozma was very upset but said she knew his death would bring an end to years of anguish.
Olson pleaded guilty to the 11 murders in 1982, bringing to an end more than a year of horror that gripped British Columbia as the young victims disappeared.
The case became even more controversial when days later, media reports revealed police paid Olson’s wife $100,000 in exchange for leading officers to the bodies.
