SOREL-TRACY, Que. — Quebec police are investigating a spate of arsons targeting businesses in two towns northeast of Montreal.
Provincial police have set up a command post in the region and are seeking witnesses to the fires, which they said occurred between Dec. 2 and Dec. 21.
Police say five fires targeted businesses including two pizza restaurants, a bulk good store and a bar in Sorel-Tracy, about 90 kilometres northeast of Montreal.
A sixth fire was reported at a restaurant in the neighbouring town of Contrecoeur.
Provincial police spokeswoman Valerie Beauchamp says the motive behind the arsons remains unclear, but says whoever set the fires used the same techniques at the various sites.
Beauchamp says items retrieved at the scenes have been sent for analysis and major crimes investigators are asking anyone with information to contact them.
