Youth-led hub looks for creative solutions

By CityNews Ottawa

Inspired by the stagnation and isolation of the pandemic, Drayton Mulindabigwi Jabo wanted to leverage his creativity and problem-solving into something good.

“I had so many creative ideas, so many different things in my mind, and there wasn't anything out there that could allow me to funnel these ideas and really focus on implementing them. Especially nothing that I can work on with peers and things like that, and that's really when I asked, why not create that that hub?”

So, Mulindabigwi Jabo created 20today20tomorrow, what he calls the largest youth-led creative hub.

The hub is intended to give youth a platform and community to work together on creative ideas, technology, art and other solutions to social problems facing the youth of today.

A primary focus of the hub has been mental health and eliminating the stigma around talking about mental health issues.

Healmind, a project to raise awareness and provide resources on mental health, was one of their first initiatives, launched during the pandemic at a time when youth were feeling increasingly isolated.

20today20tomorrow also works with organizations looking to connect with youth and offers a sort of consultation service that gets youth involved in decisions making, particularly when those decisions impact young people.
