Several hours of freezing rain have coated parts of the capital in ice, snapping power poles and turning streets into skating rinks.
Thousands of homes and businesses in Ottawa and eastern Ontario lost power, thanks to fallen hydro lines and, in some cases, snapped power poles. Hydro Ottawa shared this video of the damage at the Trainyards shopping centre.
Several trees bowed and limbs snapped under the weight of several millimetres of ice.
