City of Ottawa to carry out a ‘green bin blitz’ for spoiled food and organic waste

The City of Ottawa will carry out a green bin blitz in neighbourhoods hardest-hit by the weekend storm, to ensure that organic waste is collected as soon as possible, including food that has spoiled during power outages.
The focus will begin in the Stittsville, Knoxdale-Merivale, River and Cumberland wards, and residents are being asked to set out their green bins for collection.
Officials say if the bins are not picked up on Tuesday, residents can bring them back out to the curb Wednesday morning.
There will also be four sites where residents across the city of Ottawa can discard their organic waste in large bins.
They are located at the Navan Memorial Centre, CARDELREC Recreation Complex Goulbourn, the Hunt Club-Riverside Park Community Centre and Howard Darwin Centennial Arena.
The city says more bins will be added in the coming days.
