City of Ottawa to replace section of LRT tracks in tunnel due to noise

By CityNews Ottawa

The City of Ottawa will be replacing a section of light rail transit (LRT) track in the Confederation Line tunnel, near Rideau Station.

General Manager of Transportation Services Renée Amilcar said, via a translator at a Transit Commission meeting on Wednesday, November 16, that it's due to excessive noise on a certain part of the track.

“There are very specific locations at Rideau Station where we find a noise that is unusual,” she explained.

City crews had previously used grinders on that part of the track in an attempt to fix the problem.

“We will start the work tonight, and then we think the noise will be gone, permanently,” concluded Amilcar.

She said trains have been travelling at reduced speeds on that section of track recently.
