Dangerous conditions around Rideau Canal, Cataraqui watershed Parks Canada warns

By Dani-Elle Dubé

Anyone finding themselves along the Rideau and Cataraqui watersheds are being warned of potentially dangerous water flows following recent rain events in and around the area.

Parks Canada says the high water has also created the potential for fast-moving currents, adding to the danger of the area, the government body said in its warning issued on Thursday, May 19.

The agency said it will be moving water over the next few days through the system in preparation for the opening of navigation.

The public is advised to exercise caution on or along the waterway and to avoid water control structures such as dams, spillways and locks.
