Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for Ottawa, Gatineau and most of eastern Ontario for the first weekend of August.

The weather agency's forecast is calling for highs of 31 C on Saturday, August 6 and 33 C on Sunday, August 7.

"Humidex values are expected to reach the high 30s to low 40s," Environment Canada said.

David Phillips, senior climatologist with Environment Canada, told CityNews Ottawa earlier this week that temperatures this month could be hotter than usual.

Phillips said his model suggests that August is going to be warmer than normal, even warmer than July.

"I think there is still a lot of summer left in the air," he said. "There will be some warm days, we haven't finished counting those days above 30 C and I think people will complain about the humidity."
