Ex-PM Brian Mulroney says daughter’s inexperience shouldn’t be held against her

AJAX, Ont. – Mulroney is out stumping for his daughter Caroline as she competes against three others to take the helm of the Progressive Conservatives.
    
Speaking at a lunchtime event in Ajax, Ont., east of Toronto, Brian Mulroney said he was also criticized as too green during his campaign to lead the federal party in 1983.
    
But he says he nonetheless landed the job and went on to put the party in power for close to a decade before retiring from politics in the early 1990s.
    
Former Tory legislator Christine Elliott, former Toronto city councillor Doug Ford and parental rights activist Tanya Granic Allen are also vying to replace former Progressive Conservative leader Patrick Brown, who resigned in late January amid allegations of sexual misconduct.
    
Brown has consistently denied the allegations and briefly campaigned to reclaim his job before dropping out of the race.
