Firefighters tackle basement fire in Sheffield Glen

Ottawa Fire Services said there are reports of propane tanks in the home's basement.

Firefighters were called to a basement fire in a home on Southvale Crescent, near Walkley Road and the 417.

The fire began around 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 24.

Ottawa Fire said a 911 caller reported a fire in the basement. When firefighters arrived, they found flames coming out of a ground floor window at the back of the house.

A tweet issued by Ottawa Fire Services said there are reports of propane tanks in the home's basement.

There is no word yet on the cause of the fire nor a dollar estimate of the damage it caused.
