Hwy 417 closure coming soon

By Mike Vlasveld

The City of Ottawa is asking motorists to plan for a Hwy 417 closure, coming in two weeks.

A section of Hwy 417 is set to fully close for the demolition of the Harmer Avenue Pedestrian Bridge.

The highway will be shut down in both directions from Bronson Avenue to Carling Avenue on Saturday, July 28 and Sunday, July 29.

During the work, eastbound on-ramps at Carling Avenue, Parkdale Avenue and Maitland Avenue will also be closed. Westbound on-ramps will close at Catherine Street, Rochester Street, Parkdale Avenue, Lyon Street and O'Connor Street.

The following detours will be in effect during the closure:

Westbound motorists must exit the highway at Bronson Avenue onto Catherine Street, Catherine Street becomes Raymond Street which flows westbound to Booth Street. Drivers can then take Booth Street southbound to Carling Avenue, and take Carling Avenue westbound to the westbound Hwy 417 on-ramp at Kirkwood Avenue.

Eastbound motorists must exit the highway at Carling Avenue and continue east to Bronson Avenue, take Bronson Avenue northbound to Chamberlain Avenue, then take Chamberlain Avenue eastbound to Isabella Street. Drivers can continue on Isabella Street eastbound onto the eastbound Highway 417 on-ramp at Metcalfe Street.

The public is advised to plan all trips well in advance, as significant delays are expected during the closure.
