Innovation Pod provides more space for local musicians and artists

By Jenn Pritchard

The small trailer sits on the grounds of Lansdowne Park near the Queen Elizabeth Driveway entrance with a sign that reads 'Innovation Pod'

The pod, run by the design team from prototypeD, includes a 3D printer and a recording studio.

prototypeD partnered with the Ottawa Music Industry Coalition (OMIC) and Apt613 to give a space to musicians and artists across the city a place to go.

The space can be used by people looking to produce digital art, music and visual art.

The curved shack in front of the Aberdeen Pavillion also includes solar panels.

Rebecca Black, Acting Executive Director with prototypeD explained to the 1310 NEWS that the Innovation Pod is entirely off the grid.

The OMIC, along with Apt613 will be organizing different events at the pod until November.

In a release from the city, Manager of Apt613 Greggory Clark couldn't contain his excitement for the project.

“We can't wait to get the keys to this thing,” he said. “Our contributors haven't stopped pitching podcast ideas, live music sessions, and other novel uses of the space since learning about the Innovation Pod opportunity. It's going to be a blast.”
