Laine Johnson elected councillor for College ward

By Anil Jhalli

Laine Johnson is the new councillor for College ward.

Rick Chiarelli, the ward's current councillor, did not seek re-election.

Johnson was elected with just over 51 per cent of the votes.

She was one of five candidates running in the ward.

She said she was concerned with the personalities clashing around the council table during the last term and her short and long-term goals at council is to demonstrate a different way of getting results from the residents of Ottawa.

“One of the reasons I wanted to get involved at this stage and why it was urgent, was because I was feeling alarmed by what we had been seeing at the council table,” said Johnson on Wake Up With Rob Snow on Oct. 25.

Johnson is one of 11 new councillors around the council table. She said she's ready to hit the ground running once the new council is sworn in next month.

“The people of Ottawa have been feeling very mistrustful of city hall and the results they have been getting,” she added.
