Mail delays in Ottawa as individuals hit the picket line

By Jenn Pritchard

Ottawa residents should expect some delays with mail pick up and delivery this week, as individuals were back out on the picket line at the main sorting plant on Monday.

Canada Post confirmed that some individuals were illegally delaying the movement of mail and parcels at the sorting plant on Industrial Avenue and Alta Vista Drive.

Emergency crews were called to the site just before 6 a.m. for reports of a barrel being on fire.

No injuries were reported and Ottawa Fire said that no blaze was extinguished but that police were keeping a close eye on the situation.

Postal workers were ordered back to work on November 27 after legislation was passed in the Senate.

Canada Post said that appropriate action would be taken to address the 'illegal activity' taking place at the processing plant.
