Mask mandates are set to lift in Ontario on Monday, March 21 — but what does that mean for Uber customers?
According to a statement from Uber Canada to CityNews, masks in its ride share vehicles will be optional in the coming weeks, but not immediately on Monday when the mandate drops.
“As we have done since the beginning of the pandemic, we are following provincial mandates across the country,” the statement from Uber Canada reads. “We expect to move to a ‘mask recommended' phase in the coming weeks and will communicate this to riders, consumers, drivers and delivery people.”
Until then, however, the “no mask no ride” policy will remain in place.

“We will make adjustments as needed given the ever changing public health situation.”
Crowd restrictions and proof of vaccination requirements in Ontario were lifted by the provincial government at the end of February.
And on March 9, the province confirmed that mask mandates were also to lift on March 21.
Despite the move to ease restrictions, Canada’s top doctor, Dr. Theresa Tam, said Canada could see a “blip” of cases this spring, although severe outcomes in the country should be manageable.
