No reports of monkeypox in capital: OPH

By CityNews Ottawa

Ottawa Public Health (OPH) reveals that there are no cases of monkeypox reported in the capital as of May 20.

OPH is aware of the recent reports of possible monkeypox virus cases in Canada, and routinely monitors and reports on infectious diseases.

“If cases do arise locally, OPH will work closely with the Ontario Ministry of Health and the local hospitals as needed,” said Dr. Monir Taha, OPH's associate medical officer of health in a statement to CityNews Ottawa.

OPH has been in contact with the Ontario Ministry of Health, and it is anticipated the ministry will offer Ontario specific guidance regarding the monkeypox virus. In the interim, the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevent (CDC) has resources and information on monkeypox that provides guidance.
