Ontario SPCA launches holiday adoption campaign

By Alex Black

The Ontario SPCA and Humane Society has launched a holiday campaign aimed at finding loving homes for animals.

In a release, the SPCA said the holidays can be a good time to welcome an animal into the home, with many people enjoying time off and spending time at home with family, so the goal of the second annual 'iAdopt for the Holidays' campaign is to find loving homes for as many animals as possible between now and Christmas.

“There are so many ways to get involved in 'iAdopt for the Holidays' and change the life of an animal this holiday season,” says Dr. Stephanie Black, Chief Veterinary Officer for the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society. “If you aren’t in a position to adopt, you can make a real difference in an animal’s life by making a donation to help provide them with the care, shelter and love they deserve.”

If you’ve already adopted an animal, you can enter Ontario’s Cutest Adopted Animal Photo Contest for a chance at weekly prizes, as well as a grand prize to the pet with the most votes.

You can also make an online donation, or, new this year, adopt-it-forward by covering the adoption fee for an animal who may be overlooked by potential adopters because they are a senior pet or an animal with special needs.

Also, the SPCA has partnered with Swiffer for a second year in a row, so anyone who adopts through the campaign will be given a guide of tips and tricks on how to care for a new pet.

Last year, close to 600 animals found loving homes across Ontario during the campaign, which runs until Christmas Day on Sunday, Dec. 25.
