Ottawa fire crews tackle two long weekend fires

By CityNews Ottawa

No one was injured during an early morning fire in the Vanier area.

The Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) received multiple 9-1-1 calls on Saturday, July 31, reporting visible flames from the second storey of a single family home between Bradley Avenue and Ste Anne Avenue.

The bulk of the fire was knocked down around 2:15 a.m. and was under control around 3:53 a.m.

A  fire investigator was called to scene. The Canadian Red Cross and the Salvation Army will be assisting those affected by the incident.

The previous day, July 30, OFS reported non-critical firefighter injuries after responding to a fire in an unoccupied structure.

At 6:43 p.m., OFS received multiple calls reporting smoke coming from the roof of a residential structure on Besserer Street near Nelson Street.

After seeing smoke coming from a second floor window of a multi unit building, firefighters made their way to the third floor.

Active hydro connections presented hazards on scene.

An Ottawa fire investigator is determining the cause.
