Ottawa’s 2022 Capital Pride to be ‘largest, most colourful’ ever

By Dani-Elle Dubé

With less than two months before Ottawa’s 2022 Capital Pride Festival, organizers for the annual party say they are working hard to put together the final touches.

This year’s Pride is happening from August 21 to 28, with events happening all of the city that represents pride inclusion.

“We celebrate in a big way in August with our annual festival and pride parade,” Toby Whitfield, executive director of Capital Pride, said on The Sam Laprade Show on Tuesday, June 22. “This year we’re returning in-person for our festival. We’ve got many of our favourite activities from pre-pandemic returning in a bigger and better way for 2022.”

Like other Ottawa festivals that have celebrated post-pandemic, Capital Pride will be no different.

The event will kick off with the Pride family picnic in Hintonburg Park.

This year will also have two main stages on Bank Street, which Whitefield says is the largest footprint the festival has ever had. This will take place on the last weekend of Pride.

Then on the Sunday afternoon, Ottawa will have its “largest, most colourful [Pride] parade we’ve ever had,” Whitfield said.

However, those still on the fence about joining the parade still have time to sign up.

Applications to be a part of the parade can still be found on Capital Pride’s website and submitted through there as well.
