Ottawa’s beach season kicks off this weekend at three sites

By Dani-Elle Dubé

Get your swim trunks and flips flops out and lather on that sunscreen because it’s officially beach season in Ottawa.

Mooney’s Bay, Britannia and Petrie Island will be open to the public for supervised swimming starting on Saturday, June 18.

Westboro Beach, however, will be closed for the entirety of the season due to ongoing National Capital Commission’s redevelopment project.

Lifeguards will be on duty daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Ottawa Public Health (OPH) will also conduct regular water quality testing at all sites.

The latest water quality results and no swimming advisories can be found on the City’s website.

Beach accessible wheelchairs will be available on a first come first serve basis.

The official opening day for outdoor swimming pool facilities has not yet been determined and will be announced in the coming days.

City-operated wading pools, however, have four staggered opening dates starting on Tuesday, June 21, followed by June 25,  26 and 30.

Opening dates of each wading pool can also be found on the City’s website at ottawa.ca
